Welcome to LaChiusa
The walls of LaChiusa have stood for centuries. Originally operating as a working olive oil mill in the 14th century, the estate has long been a place of gathering, harvest, and community. Today, we have meticulously restored the property to blend its rustic, ancestral charm with the refined comforts of a modern luxury agriturismo. The original terracotta floors, exposed wooden beams, and our sprawling 1,000-tree olive grove serve as a constant reminder of the land’s rich agricultural heritage.
From Ancient Mill to Luxury Retreat
Before it became a sanctuary of hospitality, LaChiusa served as a guarded toll station in the 12th century along the ancient dirt road connecting Montefollonico to Montepulciano. By 1353, it transformed into a bustling olive mill, pressing the region’s finest “liquid gold” for over 600 years. Today, our original terracotta floors, exposed wooden beams, and sprawling 1,000-tree olive grove serve as a constant, beautiful reminder of the land’s rich agricultural heritage.
Hosted by George & Linda
Hospitality at LaChiusa is deeply personal. Your hosts, George and Linda, are passionate about sharing the true, unfiltered magic of Tuscany. They don’t just hand you a room key; they invite you to become part of the family. Whether they are pouring you a glass of local Vino Nobile on the terrace, guiding you through a pasta-making class, or sharing the hidden secrets of Val d’Orcia, their mission is to make your stay the most memorable part of your Italian journey.
The Art of Slow Living
In a world that is always rushing, LaChiusa is a sanctuary designed for slowing down. Our philosophy is rooted in the “Garden-to-Table” lifestyle. We believe that true luxury is found in simplicity: waking up to panoramic views of Monte Amiata, tasting organic tomatoes pulled from the earth that very morning, and ending the day with laughter around a communal table.
Experience the Tuscan Lifestyle
Our historic property is more than just a destination; it is a celebration of Italian culture. We invite you to explore the other pillars of our estate—from our boutique accommodations and farm-to-table dining to our immersive culinary vacations and exclusive olive oil club.
The LaChiusa Journal
Here in Montefollonico, the kitchen is the heartbeat of the home. It is where stories are shared over simmering ragù, where flour-dusted hands pass down centuries-old traditions, and where strangers become family around the table. Whether you are planning your dream culinary vacation in Tuscany, searching for traditional Tuscan recipes to recreate at home, or simply craving a taste of the slow Italian lifestyle, you have found your place. Pour yourself a glass of wine, pull up a chair, and explore the secrets of the nonna kitchen.
