The Center of It All

Your Gateway to the Val d'Orcia

At LaChiusa, the most iconic destinations in central Italy are right at your doorstep. As illustrated on our custom map, our historic estate is perfectly positioned to serve as your luxurious home base for daily exploration. Whether your dream is to sip world-class Brunello in Montalcino, marvel at Renaissance architecture in Pienza, or simply wander the untouched medieval alleys of our hometown, you are never more than a short, scenic drive away.

50 Minute Drive

Siena

Siena’s thriving historic center offers one of Italy’s most remarkably preserved medieval experiences. While best known for its cascading redbrick lanes and the magnificent Piazza del Campo, the true soul of Siena is found in its quiet courtyards and flower-decked alleys. We highly recommend visiting at twilight, when the day-trippers have left and the narrow streets—lined with colorful local flags and ancient iron horse tethers—feel entirely yours.

50 Minute Drive

Lake Trasimeno

Located in the lush, green heart of neighboring Umbria, Lake Trasimeno is a pristine natural paradise framed by charming white water lilies and beds of reeds. Visit the spectacular town of Castiglione del Lago, resting on a limestone promontory above ancient Etruscan ruins. From here, you can walk the medieval walls of the Palazzo Ducale and admire the historic Rocca del Leone fortress as it proudly stands guard over the shimmering water below.

45 Minute Drive

Cortona

Blanketing a dramatic 1,700-foot hilltop, Cortona offers sweeping, uninterrupted views of both Tuscany and Umbria. While Frances Mayes’ famous book Under the Tuscan Sun placed it in the modern limelight, Cortona has been a classic Tuscan jewel for centuries. Originally one of the most powerful Etruscan settlements, visitors can still marvel at the massive, ancient city walls and nearby tombs before enjoying a cappuccino in the vibrant town square.
Montefollonico

Our Home Town

Montefollonico

Step right outside LaChiusa’s gates and you are standing in Montefollonico. Surrounded by 13th-century fired brick walls, this isolated medieval hamlet is completely untouched by mass tourism. With fewer than 450 full-time residents, its narrow, winding alleys and rustic stone houses offer an incredibly authentic, intimate glimpse into true Tuscan life. It is the perfect, quiet place for a romantic evening stroll.

9 Minute Drive

Montepulciano

Sitting proudly on the opposite side of the valley from LaChiusa, you can see the twinkling lights of Montepulciano from our estate every evening. As the largest hilltop village in the area, it is globally celebrated for its prestigious Vino Nobile red wine. You can take a quick drive—or a scenic 8-kilometer walk—to explore its elegant Renaissance palaces, ancient churches, and hidden corners, all while enjoying spectacular views of the rolling vineyards.

12 Minute Drive

Pienza

A true Renaissance masterpiece, Pienza was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1996. Completely redesigned by Pope Pius II to be the “ideal utopian city,” its stunning Cathedral boasts a brilliant mix of Gothic-French and Italian Renaissance architecture. Beyond its cultural beauty, Pienza is a gastronomic paradise, famous throughout the world for its artisan Pecorino sheep’s cheese—a must-taste experience for any visitor.

15 Minute Drive

San Quirico d'Orcia

This deeply charming town is an absolute must-visit. Nestled in the quintessential rolling hills of the Val d’Orcia, San Quirico offers breathtaking atmosphere, rich history, and magnificent architecture without the heavy crowds of larger cities. It retains a profound sense of friendliness and elegant simplicity that effortlessly finds its way into the heart of every traveler who wanders its historic streets.
montalcino

35 Minute Drive

Montalcino

Globally revered by wine connoisseurs, Montalcino is defined by its endless, sun-drenched vineyards and the production of the legendary Brunello di Montalcino wine. Located at the edge of the Val d’Orcia, the town is crowned by a striking Medieval Castle that hosts historic archery competitions in the summer. With sweeping views of the Ombrone valley, it is the ultimate destination for a world-class wine tasting.
